Dialogue on company growth – QUNDIS as a model

Yesterday Dieter Berndt, Chairman of the Management Board at QUNDIS, was a guest speaker at the Congress on Company Growth (Unternehmen :wachsen) held at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) in Berlin. The event was part of an ongoing campaign which aims to reinforce the growth of companies in eastern Germany.

At yesterday’s congress an interim balance on the results of the dialogue was drawn up. In addition a number of companies presented their practical experiences in relation to growth in four main fields of action. As a guest speaker Dieter Berndt dealt with the theme of internationalisation, while the other main topics related to growth, management strategies and company clusters.

After the congress was officially opened by Iris Gleicke, the Federal Government’s Commissioner for Eastern German Affairs and Parliamentary Secretary of State at the BMWi, the participants initially focused on the academic approach, with Prof. Nadine Kammerlander from the Otto Beisheim School of Management describing the factors behind the fascination with company growth. Her presentation was followed by an interesting round table discussion on ‘The secret of rapid growth’.

In the afternoon there were four simultaneous workshops, each dedicated to one of the four areas of action. Dieter Berndt was one of the speakers at the workshop on ‘Not leaving internationalisation to chance’, and presented the QUNDIS internationalisation strategy and success story. He described how the integration of companies in international networks can be implemented successfully – in this field in particular many mid-sized companies have a lot of ground to catch up.

In summing up the core purpose of the campaign Iris Gleicke states: “With this dialogue we wish to create a setting in which companies can exchange experiences and learn from one another, a setting in which they can develop ideas for a new strategic alignment and accordingly for stronger growth. With this dialogue we aim to generate a ‘desire for growth’ among companies”.

The dialogue on company growth is designed as a long-term process, and will be maintained by the BMWi under the patronage of Iris Gleicke until at least the year 2018.
