The Q M-Bus system

Q M-Bus – an abbreviation for “meter bus” – is a product family based upon the wired M-Bus standard for wired remote meter readout, and can be used for all kinds of consumption meters as well as for various sensors and actuators. The great advantage of the Q M-Bus technology is its high level of flexibility, since a standardised interface means no problems when operating devices from different manufacturers on one bus. Even the connection of impulse transmitter meters and use as actual-value sensors in control systems is possible using special M-Bus adapters.

How Q M-Bus works
The Q M-Bus system is used for recording consumption data, mainly for heat and water meters. Compared to radio systems, wired systems make sense wherever meters have to transmit instantaneous values or where a few meters for central recording are spread over a large area. In addition to the actual meters for heat and water, QUNDIS also supplies impulse input modules that provide data from devices with an impulse output for the Q M-Bus system. Central units, level converters and remote displays round off the product range.

In the Q M-Bus system, QUNDIS provides the following system modules

Heat meters
Screw-type, measuring capsule and split heat meters that are M-Bus capable either directly or through an additional module.

Mechanical water meters with Reed contact output (see delivery range) can also be integrated in the Q M-Bus range together with an M-Bus impulse module.

Q M-Bus building central unit
The M-Bus central unit is used for remote readout, remote control and monitoring of an M-Bus system with all consumption meters of the Q M-Bus system as well as consumption meters and controllers with M-Bus connection in accordance with EN1434-3. The unit values are read out cyclically and stored in an intermediate memory.

Q M-Bus level converter
The M-Bus level converter is a component of the M-Bus system. The level converter is used for direct access to the meters without intermediate data storage.

Q M-Bus repeater
The M-Bus repeater is used to amplify the signal to bridge long bus wires in M-Bus systems and to increase the number of meters.

Q M-Bus impulse adapter
The M-Bus impulse adapter records and processes the impulses from one or two consumption meters with impulse output and transmits the data to an M-Bus network. These can be meters for hot or cold water, heating, gas and electricity. The consumption data are requested periodically by the Q M-Bus building central unit via the M-Bus.

Q M-Bus parameter setting software
Used to set parameters for the M-Bus impulse adapter. For straightforward parameter setting by means of a user-friendly user interface.
