More than 12,800 trees planted for the environment: first year with Plant-for-the-Planet a resounding success

Since 2016 Erfurt metering equipment producer QUNDIS has been planting trees worldwide and creating awareness for environmental conservation among young people

QUNDIS GmbH has been officially supporting the international environmental initiative Plant-for-the-Planet since early 2016. In the first year of the cooperation the producer of metering equipment financed the planting of 2,850 new trees. In addition, at events and via its website the Erfurt company has collected donations for the planting of a further 9,950 trees.

“We’re very satisfied with the first year of our support for Plant-for-the-Planet. Our thanks go to all those who have given generous donations. Above all our customers, business associates, personnel and their families are responsible for the many new trees we have managed to plant”, says Dieter Berndt, Chairman of the Management Board at QUNDIS, adding: “We hope that many more people will support us in our mission to protect the climate and the environment – not just with new trees but also with the Children’s Academies which are an important component of the Plant-for-the-Planet concept for conserving the environment.”

In addition to the tree planting campaign, in April 2016 QUNDIS organised the first Plant-for-the-Planet Children’s Academy in Erfurt. The event at the city’s town hall was attended by 30 children aged between 9 and 12, together with their parents. The aim of the Plant-for-the-Planet Academy was to create awareness of climate problems among children and adolescents, and to encourage their active participation in the campaign. Following the event the children planted 50 deciduous trees in a forestry area near Töttelstädt. The next Children’s Academy arranged by Plant-for-the-Planet and QUNDIS will take place in Erfurt on 1 April 2017.

“We are strongly committed to supporting the objectives of Plant-for-the-Planet. After all, trees capture CO2, which reduces the greenhouse effect and makes a contribution to stabilising the climate. Sustainable and environmentally friendly action are also central pillars of our business model. The QUNDIS metering devices contribute towards energy savings and help to avoid CO2 emissions. This enables us to drive forward the energy turnaround”, states Dieter Berndt.

All those who are interested can now support Plant-for-the-Planet and QUNDIS with their own small donation. On the Internet the QUNDIS tree counter provides a clear overview of the various donation options, the targets of the campaign, the trees which have already been planted and the regions where planting is taking place. By the way: a tree planted in support of the climate also makes a great gift.

About Plant-for-the-Planet:
Plant-for-the-Planet, the initiative for young people, has its origins in a school presentation given in January 2007 by Felix Finkbeiner, who was 9 at the time. At the end of the presentation Felix expressed the vision that in every country on earth children could plant a million trees in order to offset the world’s CO2 emissions. In the years which followed Plant-for-the-Planet developed into a worldwide movement: today more than 100,000 children in over 100 countries are engaged in the campaign for an overall reduction in CO2 emissions and for climate justice in terms of the fair distribution of emission rights among all nations. The children themselves become actively involved by planting trees – in Germany the one million mark has already been exceeded. Together with the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) more than 14 billion trees have already been planted worldwide. Every tree captures CO2 and is at the same time a symbol of climate justice. Plant-for-the-Planet enjoys a high level of recognition, both domestically and internationally. The patrons of this initiative for young people are Prince Albert II of Monaco and former director of UNEP Klaus Töpfer. UNEP itself supports Plant-for-the-Planet: on 7 December 2011, at the United Nations COP 17 Climate Conference held in Durban, it handed over to the children the “Billion Tree Campaign”, and accordingly the official worldwide tree counter.
