QUNDIS is Germany’s “Innovator of the Year” 2016

In this year’s TOP 100 innovations competition QUNDIS GmbH came out on top in the category for companies with more than 250 employees, and was accordingly the overall victor as “Innovator of the Year”. To achieve this QUNDIS had to pass through an extensive, scientific selection process and make a strong impression on the TOP 100 jury. The Erfurt company was presented with the award at Germany’s Mid-sized Enterprise Summit in Essen on 24 June.

The TOP 100 jury, consisting among others of Jochen Schweizer, Dr. Sahra Wagenknecht and Cem Özdemir, had particular praise for the innovative success of QUNDIS as well as the integration of the company’s workforce and external partners. For example, the Erfurt enterprise uses its in-house suggestions system in order to collect ideas from the workforce and then implement these. In addition, in the development of new products QUNDIS regularly cooperates with other companies and universities. In explaining its decision the TOP 100 jury stated: “As a technological leader in consumption metering and radio-controlled data transmission QUNDIS GmbH is making an important contribution to the digitalisation of the energy turnaround”. Over recent years the producer of metering devices has registered constant growth at an average of more than 10% a year. Of this growth, around 70% results from the new products and innovative improvements which QUNDIS regularly launches on the market ahead of its competitors.

This makes QUNDIS a pioneer in the development of systems for recording the consumption of water and heating. Between 2012 and 2014 alone the company registered a total of 55 patents for its digitally-based metering. “We are delighted to be among the most innovative companies in Germany. We regard this award as recognition and appreciation of our work. It will encourage us to continue to drive forward our efforts in this field together with the development of our company”, states Dieter Berndt, Chairman of the Management Board at QUNDIS.

This is the 23rd time that the TOP 100 competition has presented awards to the most innovative mid-sized companies in Germany. This year a total of 366 companies participated in the contest. Since the year 2002 the scientific management of the competition has been in the hands of Prof. Nikolaus Franke from the Institute for Entrepreneurship and Innovation at Vienna’s University of Economics and Management Studies. The mentor to the TOP 100 competition is the science journalist and TV presenter Ranga Yogeshwar, while the Fraunhofer Association for the Promotion of Applied Research and the BVMW (Federal Association of Mid-sized Enterprises) are project partners.
