Efficient use of resources in Thuringia

Resource management and the efficient use of resources are playing an increasingly important role for companies in Germany. At the European level, too, this subject is receiving increasing attention. There are very good reasons for this: with the right strategy manufacturing companies can save up to 20% of the materials they use. This reduces costs, increases competitiveness and makes a valuable contribution to the protection of the environment. Accordingly last Thursday QUNDIS in Erfurt hosted an information event on the subject of resource efficiency.

Efficient use of resources: companies, associations and institutions are provided with information in Erfurt

Last Thursday afternoon around 30 participants attended an event dedicated to “The efficient use of resources – protecting the environment and strengthening the economy” on the premises of QUNDIS GmbH in Erfurt. At the event there were presentations on basic theory, and projects which had been successfully put into practice were described. One topic, for example, was how materials can be recycled and recovered most effectively, together with state support which is available to business in this field. The companies represented included Kappstein GmbH, Verbundnetz Gas AG and IlmPrint GmbH.

Axel Müller, a member of the board of the host company, was impressed by the interest which was shown: “Sustainability and efficient use of resources are major parts of our company philosophy, and are reflected in more than just our metering equipment. For example, three years ago we launched a system for taking back used devices, we provide our staff with regular training on the subject, and we have optimised the lighting and air conditioning in our production facilities in the interests of resource efficiency. I’m therefore delighted whenever further companies in Thuringia also adopt this approach.“

The event was organised by the Free State of Thuringia, Thuringia’s Energy and GreenTech Agency (ThEGA) and the VDI Centre for Resource Efficiency, and was aimed in particular at staff responsible for the flow of materials and energy, controlling and sustainability. The next information event, entitled “Resource efficiency applied locally”, will take place in the Climate Pavilion in Weimar. The host company in Erfurt was QUNDIS GmbH, a leading manufacturer of metering devices and systems for the recording and billing of heating and water consumption. In terms of sustainability and resource management the Erfurt metering equipment specialist is showing a good example, and in 2015 received the European Union’s EMAS seal of approval for certified environmental management.
