QUNDIS heat meters at a glance

The German metering instrument manufacturer QUNDIS produces heat meters with ultrasonic and impeller technology. Both device types are ideal system modules for measuring and recording heat consumption in heating systems with central heat generation.

This means that the tried-and-tested heat meters in our Q heat series enable you to record the energy consumption of various heating, cooling, solar and hot water systems. The Q heat series heat meters are particularly practical due to their compact design and simple operation.

Our ultrasonic heat meters are among the flattest devices on the market and are easy to install even in particularly inaccessible places thanks to their removable calculator unit. The current consumption, the readout date and the readout date value can be conveniently recorded with just the push of a button via a display loop.

Radio integrated heat meter Q heat 5.5 R

Radio-integrated for even more convenience.

The new, Q heat 5.5 R compact heat meter with integrated radio technology stands out in terms of its flexibility for future-proof use in apartment buildings as well as commercial premises.

Screw-type and metering capsule meters are available in various design and connection sizes for recording the energy consumption of heating, solar and hot water treatment systems. All device variants are equipped as standard with a removable calculating unit. The compact design – without an extra add-on module – means that space-saving installation is no problem. Thanks to the integrated radio transmission and automatic radio start, operational start-up and integration into a Q walk-by or Q AMR radio system is quick and easy. The static recording cycle of every 36 seconds (10-year battery) results in a high level of metering accuracy (optional every 8 seconds with 7-year battery).

In order to be able to react flexibly to the most varied requirements and installation situations, the Q heat 5.5 R can be switched between flow and return on site without having to change the temperature sensors. In addition, it is also possible to change the energy unit (GJ – MJ <-> kWh – MWh).

On request, all heat meter variants can be optionally ordered with AES encryption. If required, decryption is possible within the Q SMP on a tariff-related basis.

Metering accuracy meets future-proof features.

Ultrasonic metering technology stands for precision, long-term stable readings and easy handling during installation. If this is combined with integrated radio technology, it becomes a highly convenient package in the field of consumption data acquisition. The short, static metering cycle of every 12 seconds with the 10-year battery (optional every 4 seconds with the 7-year battery), the dynamic range of up to 1:250 as well as the Class 2 metering accuracy all result in a very high level of reading precision.

Screw-type meters are available in flow rates of 0.6 to 10.0 m3/h for recording the energy consumption of heating, cooling and hot water supply systems.

The compact design, removable calculating unit and the possibility of overhead mounting offer plenty of scope and options for installation, even in confined situations. In addition, if required it is possible on site to switch between supply and return – without changing the temperature sensors – as well as between energy units (GJ – MJ <-> kWh -MWh).

AES device encryption is possible on request. Decryption can be performed within the Q SMP on a tariff-related basis. Optionally, devices with pure AMR or AMR extended telegrams are available.

Perfect integration into M-Bus networks.

QUNDIS offers two versions of its tried-and-tested Q heat 5.5 screw-type heat meter. The Q heat 5.5 M-Bus / Impulse-IN has integrated M-Bus and Impulse-IN communications interfaces. This enables up to 2 water meters to be integrated into an existing M-Bus network via a standard load. The meter is conveniently parameterized using the device buttons or via the IR interface. This significantly reduces the installation effort and costs for integration into an M-Bus network. The Q heat 5.5 is also optionally available with an M-Bus interface only.

Because of their compact design and removable calculator unit, the heat meters are ideal for installation situations where space is limited. At 63.6 mm, the Q heat 5.5 M-Bus / Pulse-IN is one of the flattest heat meters in its class on the market.

Split heat meter Q heat split

For large volumes and high temperatures.

Our Q heat split heat meters consist of an electronic calculating unit, a volume meter and temperature sensors. They are unbeatable for large volume flows or high pressure and temperature loads. Depending on the required volume, the flow sensor is designed as a Woltman or ultrasonic version. It is integrated into the pipe system via a threaded or flanged connection. For data transmission by radio (Q AMR, Q walk-by) or by cable (Q M-Bus), the calculator can be easily retrofitted with an add-on module.

Q heat split heat meters are available as heat meters, heat meters with cooling option or solar meters.

Radio or M-Bus System

Modern interfaces to our radio or M-Bus systems facilitate the recording of consumption data for the metering service. The meter is parameterised via laptop using the IR interface.

Frequently asked questions - Heat meters

Are you a tenant and have questions about your metering technology or billing? Then please contact your property management company or the responsible metering service.

Heat meters, also known as heat volume meters, record the heat energy that is supplied via a heating circuit or removed from a cooling circuit. The device measures the volume flow of the medium (e.g. water or glycol mixtures) and the difference between the supply and return temperature. The relation of these values indicates the consumption in kilowatt hours (kWh), megawatt hours (MWh), megajoules (MJ) or gigajoules (GJ). Heat meters are subject to calibration. They must therefore be replaced or recalibrated every six years.

Our electronic heat meters Q heat 5.5 R and Q heat 5.5 US R are among the most modern devices on the market. Thanks to their wide range of features and very compact dimensions, they can be used for numerous applications (e.g. hot water separation, solar circuits).

We offer various types of electronic heat meters. All the data sheets for our devices can be found in the Download & information section. There you can read what appears on your heat meter display.

With a dynamic range of 1:100, the metering accuracy of an ultrasonic heat meter is higher than that of conventional heat meters, in which the volume flow is measured using an impeller. In our model – the Q heat 5.5 US R – this is achieved by means of a patented process in which the transit time differences of acoustic signals are measured via contamination-resistant, high-quality mirrors in the single-pipe connector.

Nevertheless, classic impeller wheel heat meters such as our Q heat 5.5 R provide highly accurate readings (dynamic range 1:50). They are perfectly adequate for conventional applications, such as recording consumption in heating or hot water systems. Ultrasonic heat meters are often used where volume flows have to be determined very accurately – for example, in domestic connections or for hot water separation.

In addition, ultrasonic heat meters are subject to almost no restrictions with regard to the position in which they are installed. In contrast to classic impeller wheel heat meters, they can also be mounted overhead, for example.

Heat meters are used to measure the energy consumption of central heating systems or connections to district heating networks. They are installed directly in the pipe network of the heating or cooling circuit. In homes they are used, for example, in underfloor heating systems.

In accordance with § 9 (2) of the Heating Costs Ordinance, since 1 January 2014 heat meters have also been mandatory in Germany for hot water separation, i.e. separate energy measurement for hot water production.

In addition, heat meters are useful for measuring the energy of heat pumps and solar thermal systems in order to comply with funding guidelines.

With any electronic heat meter you can display the current and annual consumption by using the following key combination: press the top button twice and the bottom button once to access the menu. Level L0 shows you the current consumption, level L1 the annual consumption. You can switch from level to level using the top button, and move within the level using the bottom button. To switch from a level back to the menu, press both buttons simultaneously.

With the generation of devices from 2016 onwards, reading has been simplified even further. After you press any button, the display shows the current consumption, the meter reading date and the metering date value in a loop. It is repeated ten times. A display test separates the display of the current value from the metering date value (annual consumption value).
