Smart meter gateway solution by QUNDIS and PPC honoured as an example of best practice

On 13 June 2018 the Central Association of the Property Industry (ZIA) presented its innovation report at the “Property Industry Conference” in Berlin. In the trend report, the smart meter gateway system solution developed by QUNDIS and PPC received recognition as a special innovation in the real estate business. It enables remote device readouts for sub-metering via a smart meter gateway. A sub-metering network node is connected to the smart meter gateway via the controllable local system (CLS) interface.

The solution from QUNDIS and PPC opens up a wide range of new possibilities for metering services, energy suppliers and the real estate industry. The system has standardised interfaces and can therefore – in contrast to standard applications – operate with other systems. As part of the intelligent metering system (iMSys), smart meter gateways are being installed throughout Germany. The rollout of the iMSys is defined in the law on the digitalisation of the energy turnaround, as are its modular structure, highly secure data transmission and standardised interfaces.

A large number of applications in the building can already be mapped with the QUNDIS and PPC system: for example, it can read out different types of meters such as electricity, gas, water and heat.

In addition there are significant benefits provided by the high security standard (BSI and PTB certified) and new possibilities such as automated meter reading in real time, control of intelligent locking systems, direct integration of data into backend and billing systems, information for customers and tenants, new business models thanks to data sovereignty, new services through networking of multiple apartments, devices and measurement data as well as more efficient installation and maintenance.

The jury was impressed by the level of innovation and the possibility “of grouping metering operations with other services relating to buildings” presented by QUNDIS and PPC system. In addition, the system can be retrofitted to a large proportion of the radio-controlled heat cost allocators and water and heat meters already in the field.

About QUNDIS:

QUNDIS GmbH is a subsidiary of the noventic group, and is among Germany’s most successful suppliers of metering devices and systems for the recording and billing of heat and water consumption. In Erfurt the company manufactures products such as heat cost allocators, heat meters and water meters under the label “Made in Germany”. Its customer base includes metering services, OEM partners and the housing industry. Innovation is a central component of the QUNDIS corporate philosophy, which was confirmed at Germany’s 2016 SME Summit when the Erfurt company was awarded the TOP 100 Prize as “Innovator of the Year”. The QUNDIS systems for remote meter reading, which also include smoke alarms, are in use in over 6 million homes in over 30 countries.
